Craft Room...A Sneak Peek

I decided to give you a sneak peek into my craft room.  It's in desperate need of a clean-up so I'm not quite ready to expose all of it yet.  The craft room is in it's early stages but usable and I enjoy spending time in there.  Of course I want everything to be "cute" (there's that word again) and my hubby thinks I'm nuts.  To me, making it cute makes it more enjoyable to spend time in and revs up those creative juices that I so desperately need.

For now, this craft room is temporary until I decide where it should be.  Originally, we had decided that my hubby would use this bedroom as his man cave - a place where he can watch his hockey games and hang all of his memorabilia.  As the upstairs was in disarray at the time, I had a thought...what if I just "temporarily" set up a craft room so I could at least get started on making things.  Oops, a year later I'm still in there.  We do have another bedroom that I might use instead but there's furniture in there so it may not provide enough space for my crafts.  So who knows what will happen but I'm going to enjoy my craft room for now.

I found this cabinet last year at a garage sale for $20.00 and fell in love with it.  It needs some work but I haven't decided where I'm going to hang it and what colour it will be.  I'm thinking of either stripping it and staining it or painting it an antique white, I like the blue also but it doesn't go with what I have for decor.  What are your thoughts?   For now, it will stay where it is.  The colour in this photo is probably closest to the true colour.

I love old hardware.  It will be cleaned up when the cabinet is refinished.

I found a few of these insulators at a garage sale last year for a very low price.  They're in the craft room for now also until I decide where their home will be.  I like the chippy paint on the cabinet, it adds to it's shabbiness.

As I commented in previous posts, almost every ceiling in my home is covered in textured wallpaper.  I actually like this design though.  It resembles old tin ceiling tiles but on a smaller scale.

My pattern collection.

Oh look...more wallpaper.  This one also has to go.  I like toile wallpaper and I actually don't mind this one but I believe it has been hanging there for a very, very long time and it doesn't match my decor.

I purchased this drawer at a garage sale for about $4.00 a couple of years ago, not knowing what I was going to do with it.   Actually, I still don't know but this is what it's purpose is for the moment.  If you're anything like me with decorating, it will change.

Does anyone have any suggestions for it's usage?  I did have my fabric patterns in it but just recently changed the set up.

I would guess that it's a drawer from an old desk, love the hardware on this too.

I saw this cute idea on the internet and decided to try it.  I love how they turned out.  It works great for storing those extra pieces of lace.

In this photo you can see a bit of my crafting/sewing table.  A couple of years ago I went to a garage sale and arrived near the end of it.  The owner had sold his cottage and was clearing everything out.  As it had been a rental, there were lots of older pieces in it and as it was near the end of the day, he started giving some things away.  This table top was one of these items.  I LOVE FREE THINGS!!  He said it came with the cottage and had been used as a table top at that time.  Eventually it was replaced with another table but they kept this piece in the cottage.  It appears to be an old barn or shed door.  One side is smooth and the other has tongue and groove and marks from large door hinges.  I placed it on top of some supports to create my work table.

I hope you enjoyed the sneak peek.

  1. You have some very nice pieces Kelly! Love that aqua cabinet ... great for displays or supplies. If you're getting rid of the wallpaper, why not wait until you've picked a new wall colour before you change the cabinet. I like the colour it is now myself. Do you like the look of a bit of colour showing through a top colour? I too have a narrow drawer like this from a sewing machine table. I have it on my sewing table with holders for pens, scissors etc. It just keeps these things in one place. I like your idea for winding the lace onto old clothes pegs. I will have to borrow that one! You are very fortunate to have a couple of choices for a craft room! I have a corner of our family room until one of my kids decides to move out ;)

  2. My heart be still! Kelly, do not do a thing to that fabulous cabinet!! Love it and the hardware as is. It is just the cutest! lol! Hubby teases me about how often my friends and I use the word cute. :) I have an old drawer like that. Usually out of an old sewing machine. They are so fun to use in vignettes. Right now mine is holding an assortment of blue and white plates in my basement kitchen. I wind lace on old spools and clothespins also. Love the look! I would love if you shared this with our link party, Share Your Cup.
    hugs,

  3. Ooooh, that cabinet! It's a good thing I don't live next door to you because I'd probably come over and "steal" it :) Just kidding! Your cabinet it truly beautiful, Aunt Kelly....such a delightful find!

I loved getting a peek into your craft room. A few weeks ago I freshened up my craft room and reorganized everything and am hoping to share pictures of it soon. In fact, your charming wallpaper looks like the fabric I used for the valances and table skirt that I made. Great minds think alike :)

    Happy creating! Love and hugs!

  4. It all looks so interesting. I wonder what you will do with the cupboard, maybe a paint wash over the blue? I have a similar box rather like your drawer in which I keep my collection of birthday and other cards, ready to send at a moments notice.

  5. I do love your cabinet, great find! Distressed white would be pretty since the blue color doesn't go with your decor. Thanks for sharing some of your craft room.

  7. Great find on the cabinet, I too love the color, I seem to be drawn to it, I bought a purse that color that I use in the spring and summer months, and my new bible cover is that color too :) The print on the wall paper is pretty, I just have a hard time decorating myself when there is a print on the wall.

  8. I love the cabinet.... You seem to be off to a great start with putting a look together for your craft room. That toile wallpaper is fabulous!! Maybe if you take it down you could save a big enough piece to cover some decorative element in your space, that way it is off the walls but you still have a piece of history. Have fun :)

  9. You have a knack for finding gems. Your collection of items for your room reminds me of the William Morris maxim " Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful".

  10. That cabinet is fabulous Kelly! I'd be tempted to keep it the way it is, so much chippy goodness, but it wouldn't match my craft room decor either. Love the drawer too, and the lace storage is very sweet. I'd love it if you'd share this at Vintage Charm, which is all about vintage, repurposing, and upcycling. The party's on right now. Hope to see you there. Tuula :) http://thriftyrebelvintage.com/2016/02/vintage-charm-19.html/

  13. Hi Kelly, love all your vintage pieces to start your craft room with! I love the blue cabinet just the way it is - a touch of blue is always nice - but I can understand if you want to paint it. Love the lace rolled around the clothespins and your vintage storage drawer. Sweet vintage goodness here! xx Karen

  15. Gotta love freebies! Your $4 drawer reminds me of the library catalogue compartments.

I'm not usually a fan of wallpaper, but I'm intrigued by the textured wallpaper on your ceilings. I've always wanted tin ceilings, but perhaps textured wallpaper offer an economic alternative...

  16. Oh my goodness, Kelly I am in LOVE with your aqua colored cabinet! It is just so vintage looking, and I agree with other commenters that it has an amazing beauty all its own just the way it is! And I love that old drawer with the lovely pieces of twine and burlap stored in it! I enjoyed the peek of your crafting area very much! :)

  20. OH golly----keep the cabinet the way it is...and by all means let the wallpaper go---I see yellow--and white and that great teal/blue cabinet as a starting point---yellow is such a positive color---what could be better for kicking the creative juices in gear...just a thought. Thanks for the share, as I go start pulling wallpaper down on our latest project, lol. Sandi

  21. I love your aqua wall cabinet color and the old drawer container. Vintage items are so unique! I laughed when I saw your toile wallpaper because a friend of mine has curtains in the same pattern! It must have been a very popular print. Good luck with setting up your craft room -- I wish I ahd a dedicated place in my home to do the same!

  22. Wow, the color of that cupboard caught my attention right away! It just happens to be my new favorite color. I vote to leave it as is. The distressing on it is fabulous. The old drawer is wonderful too. I think it looks great how you filled it. I am finally stripping the old wallpaper in my dining room. It isn't toile, even though I live in a Victorian, but I just couldn't look at it anymore! Love your solution to storing lace!
