Vintage Seed Drill Gauge

Hi there, today I'm sharing a vintage piece that I recently purchased for $5.00  I thought this would be an interesting item to display in my farmhouse.  The seller told me it came from a horse drawn plow.  The piece of equipment attached to the plow enabled the farmer to measure the depth that the seed was to be planted at, this is the gauge off of that equipment.  My understanding is it would be the equivalent to a modern day seed drill.

I have been trying to research this but have so far been unable to find anything on this particular piece although I have seen a couple of others that appear to have been been used for the same purpose.  It is made of cast iron.

Can anyone provide information on this gauge such as:

How old is it?
How did it work?
What company created it?
Where was it made?
Are there any websites that I could refer to?

Thank you for your input, it's always appreciated.  Have a great week!!
