Another Craft Room?

Hi Friends,

Life has been busy and I decided to post something before you forget about Homespuns 'n Hayfields completely.

The old wooden spools of thread in the vintage jar were picked up at the local thrift store.  They're for display only unless I get desperate for a certain colour of thread.  I love the old wooden spools.

In a previous post, I gave you a sneak peek into my craft room.  I was almost finished setting things up when life changed.  Well...that craft room no longer exists.  To make way for my daughter and Lily moving in, parts of my craft room were temporarily relocated to our bedroom.  The temporary relocation of course lasted longer than expected but things are starting to be on course again.

Unfortunately, I never really created much when it was in our bedroom for 8 1/2 months but I did have good intentions.  I always do lol!!

After my daughter and her children moved out last month, we started to reorganize the house.  It has been a major undertaking.  Basically, 6 rooms are being relocated at once.  I need to start thinking on a smaller scale don't I?  Maybe 1 room at a time?  My original craft room is now in the process of being set up in a different bedroom upstairs so my hubby can have that room for his man cave (hockey room).  The poor guy has been waiting a while.  To all the ladies out there...crafting is more important than hockey right?  LOL!!

All I can say is "what a mess".  We have made great progress with moving the furniture but now we're down to the smaller details which takes some thinking.  We don't have any time to paint, etc. so the rooms are being decorated as is for now.

This cabinet was purchased for $20.00 at the Chatsworth Garage Sale 2 years ago.  I have recently decided to paint it since some of the veneer has come off.  It should give it a fresh new look.  I can't believe this garage sale is only 2 months away already.  That means Spring is right around the corner.  I can't wait!!

This is the next "sneak peek" into the craft room.  This bedroom had been turned into a kitchen many years ago and we have now ripped out all the cupboards except for the one you see in this photo.  We're going to keep it for now.  The wallpaper is definitely not a choice we would have made but it will have to stay for now.  I don't think it's that bad actually but it's not what we're looking for.  Sneakers of course stopped in to assess the situation.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of the craft room(s).  Come back again!!

~ Kelly ~

  1. What a great deal on that cabinet, $20 my what a steal!
    Have a great weekend.

  2. Morning Kelly, love your craft rooms, all very cozy. Great cupboard, what a steal!!! Blessings Francine.

  3. Kelly.. loving your sewing/craft room.. Makes me want to run in and do some sewing. smile
great find on the $20 cabinet..
Love your fabric stash, so pretty.
Best wishes on getting 6 rooms done.whew... that is a lot.ha
bty... I really like that wall paper..

  4. Oh, I love how you have your fabric folded and displayed! You are making great makes me tired just thinking about moving 6 rooms around at one time! You are a brave soul!! LOL! Everything is going to be great once you get it done, and what a sense of accomplishment you will feel. I can't wait to see the reveal post! God bless you, sweet friend. :)

  5. It looks so nice and organized! It is great to have a separate room for crafting, and yes, it is very important to have a crafting space.

  6. Your craft room is looking great, looks like you have a nice work space. I don't think the wallpaper is that bad at all, I don't care for wallpaper with big bold design, what you have is at least a small print. 6 rooms are a lot, maybe taking on one room at a time would be a good idea, not seem so overwhelming :) I bet your hubby loves the idea of having his own man cave.

  7. Your relocated craft room is lookin' good, Kelly! Another harbinger of spring is Stephanie's teacup exchange. Hooray!

  8. How exciting. It's always nice to switch things up. I actually love the wallpaper. It does take time to set things up exactly the way you want it.

  9. You sure know how to take the bull by the horns! I get fed up with decorating after one room is complete ;) Love the little details in your craft room, and just LOVE the wood against the wall. Are these part of the house, or slices of wood added after? It looks really nice with the white in between each slice. I wish I had a craft room all to myself. I share my sewing "corner" with the family room. Maybe when/if my kids ever decide to get their own place ;) Have a great weekend!

  10. Just think how wonderful it will look, and how relieved you will feel when all the organizing is finished. It's coming along so well. I really like old wooden thread spools, too, and have a few from my husband's grandmother. They make a beautiful display in the jar.

  11. I actually like that wallpaper, it looks very vintage and feminine! I am on the lookout for some wooden spools too...they definitely make a sweet display :)

  12. I think doing one room at a time might have been less stressful but when one has the go-ahead, it's hard to hold back.
So, after reading about the wooden spools I checked in my sewing basket that I've had since I was a teenager and there are small wooden spools with thread on. Geez, does this mean I'm old or could it also be that, that thread isn't good any more? lol
A craft room is a definite necessity to a woman's sanity and although my husband already has his finished 'man cave' I'm working in a portion of unfinished basement. He says it's better that way so I can use the cross beams to store stuff. :-)

  13. Love those little spools of thread. They remind me of my dear grandmother who was a seamstress.
I love that you have a craft room and your husband gets a man cave! Hope you have a very nice evening.

  14. Hi Kelly! I stumbled across your blog and love your craft room! My husband and I just bought a small home last summer and I had a room designated to turn into my craft room but somehow it has turned into my husbands man cave instead. :( Oh well, he can have it... for NOW. Lol. I would love it if you could take a moment to check out my blog! I have followed you so I can keep up with yours!

    Have a blessed week!

  15. Upheaval is always tough! Changing up six rooms at a time, wow! That is a huge undertaking! I enjoyed the pictures of your craft area, and love your old wooden hutch that you got at such a bargain! It would look great with some chalk paint, I think. I've had great luck painting old wooden pieces with chalk paint. Good luck with all your rearranging, I'm glad you will have a place to craft once again... a woman just needs to have that little spot of her own :)

  16. Oh Kelly...having to move things around, it's always a bit hard! but once it is done it is just worth it! :0) I love your craft nook :D just perfect for creating ;-) mari

  17. Hi Kelly, I kind of like that wallpaper for a craft room, but that's me. I love the vintage look. It sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you . . . do your best to make it fun :)
    Have a sweet weekend.
P.S. I love wooden spools, too.

  18. You have a delightful craft room. So many interesting things in there. I like the big jar of colored threads. The material is folded and stacked up nicely. I've always wanted a craft room to be creative and work on projects. Lucky you.

Enjoy these March days. : )

  19. Having your own craft room is so nice! I remember setting up mine in my 2 daughter's former bedroom once they had moved out (and moved back in a few times). It was so nice to have a room all to my own, although I missed my girls and I'm sure you miss yours, too. I love your fabric cupboard and all the jars and baskets full of supplies. Moving around furniture and setting up rooms is hard work, but this is a good time of year to get it done - before the outside work has to be done! It never ends.......:) I hope you get some time to enjoy your new craft room soon! xo Karen
