An Angel

Hi Friends, I thought I would share a few little treasures that I have.

This angel was my very first wood working project.  I bought a scroll saw and found a picture "somewhere" with an angel similar to this one.  I drew the angel, cut it out, sanded, stained and painted it, then added the wire, moss and fabric.  It was exciting as I actually figured out how to use a scroll saw with no assistance.  I hadn't met my future husband yet so I was on my own.  I had been taking tole painting classes at that time and my painting instructor always cut out her own wood so I thought, "if she can do it, surely I can do it too".  I guess it was my desire to create that helped me overcome my fear.  It was definitely empowering, giving me the confidence to move forward in the creation of other wood crafts.

I had considered keeping this angel but it wasn't my colour so I sold it at a craft sale around 2005.  Two years ago I was shopping at the local thrift store and I nearly died.  There was my angel, for 50  cents.  OUCH!!  It's a little upsetting when you find something you made in a thrift store but I had to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was probably a bit outdated and they had tired of it.  Sooo.....I purchased it.  I wasn't sure whether I should have and considered putting it in a future yard sale.  As I look at it now, I will more than likely keep it as it brings back many wonderful memories of craft sales with my Mom and making that first wooden craft.  It still isn't my colour lol!!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping in!

  4. 50 cents? I would have guessed at least $5. Well, someone didn't appreciate such sweet handiwork. I'm glad that you have it back!

  6. How cute! People change their decor/style all the time so I can see how the angel found its way to the thrift store. If you hadn't snatched it up, I'm sure someone with an appreciation for rustic decor would have been happy to give it a good home. I'm glad that the angel is back where it belongs. Reunited and it feels so good!

  7. How funny is that? What a nice way to remember your first wood project. Maybe it was meant to be back with you and on the mantel. You never know...

  10. I also did tole painting classes back in the early 2000's and we ended up cutting out our own stuff too and having craft sales, wow the chances of seeing one of your projects at a thrift store would be amazing, I would have had to buy it too :) I think it looks great on the shelf and you can always paint it a color you would prefer now.

  13. I love your wooden Angel and don't think it could ever go out of style!
It was meant for you to keep it. What chances are there that you would
find it years later! That's great.
